AND HERE ARE THE FEW OTHER THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN 2022.
THE FIRST ONE I HAVE IS WE VOTED ON A REDISTRICTING PLAN EARLY, I THINK IT WAS DECEMBER, I MEAN, JANUARY OR FEBRUARY, WHICH DREW NEW LINES FOR US AS BOARD MEMBERS.
LUCKILY, I STILL GOT THE SAME LINE, BUT, UH, SOME OF Y'ALL HAD SOME CHANGES.
UM, WE VOTED TO HAVE, UH, A RECREATION MASTER PLAN, AND THAT'S BEING DONE RIGHT NOW AND HOPEFULLY WILL BE COMPLETED THIS YEAR.
THEN AS USUALLY ADOPTED A COUNTY BUDGET, WHICH WAS A TOTAL COUNTYWIDE BUDGET OF 147 MILLION.
UH, 54 MILLION WAS, UH, THE COUNTY BUDGET.
AND IN THAT WE REDUCED THE PROPERTY TAX FROM 4 75 TO FOUR 60 AND, UH, AT A 90% RATE.
UH, AND LET, JUST TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW, OVER THE PAST THREE OR FOUR YEARS, WE'VE REDUCED THE RATE FROM FOUR 90 TO FOUR 60, WHICH EQUALS ABOUT WHAT, 30%, 30 10, UH, DECREASE.
UH, WE HIRED A NEW, PUT OUR BIDS FOR AUDITING SERVICES, HIRED A NEW AUDITING FIRM, ROBERTSON FARMER AND COX THIS YEAR.
AND THEN WE APPROVED OR REZONING FOR A DOLLAR GENERAL OUT ON FOUR 60.
UH, I THINK THE, THE GOOD POINT ABOUT THAT WAS I THINK MR. LEE AND DR. MOORE KIND OF WORKED ON IT.
THE, WE WERE ABLE TO GET THEM TO GIVE US AN EASEMENT.
UH, WELL FIRST THEY CHANGED TO A DIFFERENT SITE THAT WAS NOT AS DANGEROUS, AND THEN THEY WERE ABLE TO GIVE US AN EASEMENT SO THE REST OF THE PROPERTY ONE DAY COULD BE, UH, DEVELOPED WITHOUT MULTIPLE, UH, YOU KNOW, ENTRANCES INTO THE ROAD.
WE FORMALLY ADOPTED RURAL BAND CONTRACT, AND THAT'S GONNA BE VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE COUNTY TO HAVE BROADBAND THROUGHOUT THE, THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY IN THE NEXT TWO TO THREE YEARS.
UH, I THINK LAST MEETING Y'ALL ADOPTED EXOTIC ANIMAL ORDINANCE.
WHICH WE, I THINK ONLY, UH, POISONOUS SNAKES WERE ADDED.
IS THAT CORRECT? THAT'S RIGHT.
AND THEN WE DID EXEMPT, SPECIALLY EQUIPPED, UH, VEHICLES FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE TO EQUIP THEIR VEHICLES IF THEY'RE DISABLED AND ALL.
SO THEY, THEY GET A TAX BREAK FOR THAT.
AND WE HAD A COUNTYWIDE COUNTYWIDE FAIR THIS YEAR AFTER TWO YEAR HIATUS, AND WE HAD APPRO ALMOST 14,000 PEOPLE, VISITORS AT THAT EVENT, WHICH WAS A, UH, ONE OF THE BIGGEST EVENTS, UH, FOR US.
AND THEN WE HAD A DRONE UP ANNOUNCEMENT.
UH, ALL OF US WENT OVER TO RICHMOND AND WITH THE GOVERNOR ANNOUNCE THAT, AND THAT'S GONNA, UH, BE, UH, WITH RICHARD BLAND, THEY'RE GONNA WORK WITH RICHARD BLAND TO EDUCATE THE PILOTS FOR THE DRONES.
SO I THINK THAT WAS A BIG THING FOR THE COUNTY.
UH, AND THEN WE REZONED PROPERTY TO ALLOW FOR MULTIFAMILY ZONING IN THE NORTHERN END.
UH, THERE WAS VERY CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE, BUT IT WAS VOTED FOR TO, UH, TO DO THAT.
AND THEN FINALLY WE HAD A CIP THAT WAS FINALLY ADOPTED AFTER WE FIGURED OUT WHAT VALLEY WAS,

WAS GONNA DO OR WASN'T GONNA DO.SO WE FINALLY HAD TO GET SOMETHING DONE.
SO THEY WERE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT, UH, MAJOR THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THE COUNTY.
AND I JUST WANT TO THANK THE FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS FOR WORKING WITH ME ON THAT.
AND I THANK THE COUNTY STAFF ALL THEY DID TO HELP US THROUGH THIS.

SO UNDER MY COMMENTS AT THAT MEETING, I, I EXPRESSED MY APPRECIATION, UM, FOR REALLY A HARD YEAR OF A LOT OF WORK.
UM, I THINK YOU HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB EXPLAINING SOME OF THE, I GUESS, HIGHLIGHTS OF SOME OF THE BIGGER THINGS THAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR, BUT THERE'S A LOT OF OTHER SMALLER THINGS THAT TOOK PLACE AS WELL.
AND ONE OF THOSE IS YOUR, THE DAILY CONVERSATIONS WITH THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR YEAH.
ON ALL THE OPERATIONAL ISSUES AND THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING, UH, KIND OF BEHIND THE SCENES EACH DAY FOR THE COUNTY.
AND SO I JUST, I KNOW I'VE SAID IT TO YOU PRIVATELY, BUT, BUT PUBLICLY HERE, UM, THE COUNTY WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE YOU AS A LEADER.
UM, E WE'RE, WE'RE VERY, UM, YOU KNOW, WHEN IT COMES TO THIS BOARD IS SO SPECIAL, AND THE FACT THAT EACH OF YOU BEGIN TO BECOME CHAIRS, Y'ALL ROTATE YOUR CHAIRMANSHIP.
AND SO IT'S, IT'S JUST ALWAYS AMAZING TO ME HOW YOU ALL FALL IN LINE AND, AND MAKING SURE THAT WHEN IT'S YOUR TIME TO BE CHAIR, THAT YOU DON'T JUST GO ABOUT IT HAPHAZARDLY.
THAT YOU, YOU REALLY DO THINK ABOUT THE BIG PICTURE AND ARE REALLY COMMITTED TO, TO WORKING FOR THE COUNTY AND FOR THE CITIZENS IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT'S EVEN HARD FOR THE AVERAGE CITIZEN TO UNDERSTAND.
BUT MR. MOODY, YOU'VE DONE THAT.
WE WERE TALKING EARLIER TODAY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW MANY TIMES OVER YOUR CAREER YOU'VE BEEN IN THAT HOT SEAT AS THE CHAIR.
UM, AND SO YOU JUST KIND OF GAVE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS ONE TIME AS CHAIR, BUT IF YOU REALLY GO BACK IN THE HISTORY BOOKS OR THE MINUTES OF THE COUNTY, YOU'LL SEE THAT THE GAVEL LANDED IN YOUR HANDS EXACTLY WHEN THE GOOD LORD INTENDED IT TO BE.
AND I THINK THE SAME THING HERE WITH THIS BOARD, THAT THAT HAPPENS THAT WAY FOR A REASON.
